Every Child Known.Every Child Valued.

St Patrick’s offers Catholic primary education from New Entrants to Year 6 in the heart of Masterton, creating a small and close-knit environment where every tamaiti is known, nurtured, and kept safe as they grow.

Guided by our motto of Strength and Kindness, our kaiako walk alongside each whānau, building the kind of trust that lets children feel secure enough to try, to learn, and to become who they’re meant to be.

What We Stand For

Our values shape the way children are cared for and challenged at St Patrick’s, giving every family a sense of what to expect from the moment their child walks through the gate.

Why Masterton Families Choose Us

Choosing a primary school is one of the most personal decisions a family makes, often guided by a simple wish to find somewhere their child will be safe, known, and gently encouraged to grow. St Patrick’s has been built around that same wish, with small class sizes ensuring every tamaiti is recognised as an individual.

Faith underpins everything at St Patrick’s, forming the foundation for how the school approaches learning, wellbeing, and daily life. It shows up in the quiet, everyday moments as much as the big ones, shaping a culture where kindness is expected rather than exceptional.

The school’s history traces back to 1898, when the Brigidine Sisters arrived in Masterton to establish St Patrick’s within the local parish. A Sister last held the role of Principal in 1986, and Brigidine Sisters continued teaching within the school until 1995, leaving behind a legacy of care that still shapes how the school welcomes every whānau today.

For families continuing on, St Patrick’s provides a clear and natural pathway to Chanel College, allowing children to carry the same values, community, and sense of belonging with them into their secondary years.

What Our Families Say

“Safe, Valued and Excited to Come to School”

My children absolutely love this school, and I can’t speak highly enough of the entire school team. Their kindness, support, and genuine understanding, especially of my son with ADHD, have created an environment where all of my children feel safe, valued, and excited to come to school every day.

“A Second Family”

St Patrick’s has been a special part of our family’s journey. When we moved to the Wairarapa from Christchurch in 2014, we didn’t know anyone and were starting completely fresh. From the moment we joined the school community, we felt welcomed and supported, and quickly experienced the strong sense of whānau that makes St Patrick’s so special. Both of our children attended the school, where they were known, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential. Grounded in Catholic values, the school takes a holistic approach to education, nurturing children’s academic, social, spiritual, and personal development. For our family, St Patrick’s has always felt like a second family.

Thank you to the teaching staff. Blessed to be part of St Patrick’s community.

“A Cool Wee Family Vibe”

We have been really impressed with the quality of teachers that each of our kids has had during their time at St Pat’s. Truly passionate – and they always have our kids’ best interests at heart.

We reckon St Pat’s reflects a true society – it has a vast mix of kids from all sorts of cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and ethnicities. Everyone has to accept each other and get along. We’ve loved that for our kids, cos that’s the real world, right?

There’s a cool wee family vibe at St Pat’s. The Senior kids all look out for the Juniors, and there are often Chanel students helping out and being great role models. It creates a lovely energy across the school.

“Supportive and Inclusive”

We love how supportive and inclusive St Patrick’s has been for both of our children throughout their learning journeys. The staff truly nurture each child’s strengths, creating a warm environment where they feel confident, valued, and excited to learn.
