Our Catholic Character
The Catholic character of St Patrick’s is part of what makes the school special.
The St Patrick’s Way
Students build and grow their spirituality throughout their time here, developing our school and Gospel values along the way and learning to treat others with love and without judgement. Alongside this, they’re encouraged to take responsibility as stewards, of the church, the school community and the wider world.
The St Patrick’s Way is first and foremost an expression of who we are as a Catholic school. It’s grounded in the belief that every person is made in the image and likeness of God, deserving of dignity, respect, compassion and belonging. Rather than a behaviour management programme, it’s the framework for living out Catholic values in the everyday life of the school.
At its heart is a single guiding scripture.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32
This verse shapes how teaching happens, how relationships are built, how mistakes are responded to and how relationships get repaired afterward. Every interaction is treated as a chance to show Christ’s love through kindness, compassion, forgiveness and hope.

Living Our Faith Day to Day
Faith at St Patrick’s shows up well beyond the classroom. Whole-school and syndicate Mass, daily prayer, and involvement in parish life sit alongside the everyday moments where the St Patrick’s Way is lived out, in how a disagreement gets resolved, how a mistake gets repaired, and how a child having a hard day gets supported.

A Whole-School Culture
The St Patrick’s Way reaches well beyond a behaviour programme. It’s a whole-school culture shaping classroom routines, playground interactions, learning, leadership, pastoral care and partnerships with whānau, giving every child consistent support from every adult in the community, through a shared language and common expectations.
Values in Action
Flowing from this foundation are the school’s values of Strength, Kindness and Excellence, explicitly taught and celebrated every day. The St Patrick’s Way brings these values to life through clear expectations, consistent routines and intentional teaching, so students understand not just what’s expected of them, but why it matters in building a caring Catholic community. Children flourish when expectations are clear, relationships are strong and every adult responds consistently.
When challenges do come up, the focus sits on restoration rather than punishment. Children are supported to regulate their emotions, reflect on their choices, understand the impact of their actions, repair relationships where needed and build the skills to make better choices next time. This restorative approach builds responsibility, empathy, resilience and a genuine sense of belonging.
